Girls Lead PDX says: "Donald Trump is Not Who We Are"
As a co-founder of the Girls Lead PDX, I find Donald Trump to be everything we are asking our girls to fight against - sexism, racism, classism, inequality and intolerance. People like Trump who promote and legitimize misogynist views are a danger to women and girls everywhere. One week before the elections for this man to get so close to the presidency of United States is a rude wake up call for everyone who should know silence is the voice of complicity.
Everyone who believes in democracy has to take a stand against the sexist, religious and other intolerance that Donald Trump’s actions, policies and rhetoric promotes. It is putting women and girls, Latino, Muslim-American, those with disabilities, and other community members directly at risk.
As a community, we affirm the values that make us who we are: diversity, openness and compassion.
Join me in saying: Donald Trump is not who we are and ever want to be.
Why is this important?
Girls Lead was formed to provide a space for girls to pursue their interests in leadership, following the closure of an inner city all girls public school named Harriet Tubman Leadership Academy for Young women. We promote activities that encourage girls to pursue their interest in math, science and leadership. To have a Trump for President would be against the vision of what we are trying to promote and a disaster for groups like us that promote gender equity in leadership
